So is Solothurn, a town about 35 km north of Berne, called in some tourist guides. *) The first time we visited it last November and now after five months again. And my impressions of it are still the same – a charming town (and what historic town in Switzerland is not?;)) With its picturesque cobblestone streets, small shops and cafes.
The historical center is dominated by a baroque cathedral of St.Ursen. It boasts with a classic neo-Renaissance facade and its 62 meters high tower.
Zytglogge
The oldest building in town. The lower part dates back to the 12th century, the top dates back to 1467, astronomical clocks were installed in 1 545.
Baseltor
City gate from 1 508, which is most often used to enter downtown.
Once just a little warmer, most Swiss used to sit in the gardens of countless restaurants. So it is in Solothurn. This gives both the historic center and the waterfront Aare, magical atmosphere.
