After quite a long time I am here with new traveler’s post. This Saturday we went a little further, to the border cantons of Schaffhausen and Zurich, where one hundred fifty meters wide and thirteen meters tall waterfalls on the river Rhine is located. It is another of the few places that I have been to during my first visit of Switzerland nearly four years ago. But that time we were observing the waterfalls from other perspective.
We have chosen to view the falls from the chateau Worth´s side. In its current form, the chateau stands on an island in the river since the mid-fourteenth century, and formerly served as a transshipment of goods needed for water traffic route, customs or hatchery for salmon farming. *) Now it servers as a restaurant.
Když z parkoviště (ideálně P3) sejdete dolů k zámečku, vydejte se vlevo po kolonádě k bývalému mlýnu, odkud budete mít dunící peřeje takřka na dosah ruky.
When you walk down from the parking lot (ideally P3) to the castle, go left along the colonnade to the former mill, where you have a thundering rapids almost at hand.

You can buy your snack in the castle restaurant, in the colonnade cafeteria or you can make your own picnic, because as well as in many other places in Switzerland, there is so called „Feuerstelle“ ready to use.
Unfortunately, we were not lucky with the weather, because although the forecast promised to be a twenty-something degrees and cloudy, it was about ten degrees less and mostly cloudy. But you cannot rule the inversion, so our photos are not quite „photogenic“.

That’s why I reached into my archives and I managed to find a few photos from my last visit, which was in a beautiful Indian summer in September. The view is from „the other side“ from the Laufen castle, which stands on a cliff above the river. A few years ago there was an elevator built, so the gallery above the waterfalls can be reached by those less mobile, or parents with prams. Other visitors must manage several dozen steep steps.
It is interesting fact, that a railway tunnel was built within the rock on which the mansion stands and the visitors who come here get off the train almost next to the waterfalls.
